The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the aviation sector in unprecedented ways as travel came to a near standstill. The pandemic impacted all levels of society and life and will continue to do so for the next foreseeable future. Since the start of the crisis we have witnessed widening socioeconomic divides and shifts in national and international priorities in allocation of resources. Our daily lives have been upended as we had to adapt to a “new normal”. COVID-19 is also disproportionately affecting women and girls. According to UN Women, the pandemic is deepening pre-existing inequalities, exposing vulnerabilities in social, political and economic systems which are in turn amplifying the impacts of the pandemic. Yet, women are resilient and continue to positively steer social, political, economic, and cultural change within their communities, and at the national and international levels.
In line with the theme of International Women’s Day as announced by UN Women “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”, ICAO, in collaboration with IATA and ACI, intends to celebrate the tremendous efforts by women in the aviation sector who together with men continue to support safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible aviation systems around the world, during the pandemic and beyond.
Our inspiring keynote speakers will share their insight on the challenges and opportunities created by the COVID-19 pandemic for women in the aviation sector, how sustainability of the aviation industry relies on greater progress towards gender equality and empowerment of women, as well as the importance of planning and prioritizing a more equal and equitable recovery.
Watch our celebration of achievements made by our industry’s women and our call for a more equal future and prioritizing a more equal and equitable recovery.
Please note that the event will be conducted in English. Participants must register online by noon, the 6th of March. However, early registration is strongly encouraged, as space is limited and registration will be on a first come, first served basis. More information on the list of our speakers will be provided at a later stage.
