The deployment of autonomous vehicles (AVs) in airside operations offers compelling advantages by improving operational efficiency, reducing human errors, and addressing manpower constraints. However, the complex and dynamic airside environment presents unique challenges , as AVs must operate safely alongside personnel, manned vehicles, equipment, and aircraft. To support this transition, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has developed an Advisory Circular to provide comprehensive guidance for the safe operation of AVs at the airside. This includes a robust safety framework covering AV system evaluations, safety assessments, personnel training, maintenance protocols, and continuous operational monitoring. This presentation will delve into this initiative and CAAS’ role in facilitating the safe deployment of AVs at the airside.
