The mantra that governments need to ‘do more’ is a rejection of the reality that government support is not the answer to understanding aviation risk. The solution to this is now well recognised – large open-source data sets and the power that AI brings to an aviation risk management function in pre-empting events and dramatically increasing the accuracy of modelling dynamic risk. But there’s a more fundamental question. Why do we even bother with risk management at all? In his presentation, Andrew Nicholson will demonstrate why and how risk management is essential not only for maximising safety and security of aviation operations, but also for maximising the commercial efficiency of those operations.
