Acronym: Long-term global aviation aspirational goals
Are we on track to meet Net Zero CO2 by 2050? How do we know? We cannot deliver what we don’t measure or monitor. For this reason, the monitoring and reporting of the long-term aspirational goal (LTAG) of net-zero CO2 emissions for international aviation by 2050 is a key part of delivering on the goal. Aviation is the only sector with a global CO2 emissions goal, and with a methodology to track and report the progress towards it. This Skytalk is an introduction to the monitoring and reporting of the LTAG; it explains the methodology, the sources of information, and the challenges for implementation.
In 2025, the ICAO Assembly Resolution A42-21 Requested the Council, with the technical contribution of CAEP, to implement the LTAG Monitoring and Reporting (LMR) methodology to assess progress on the implementation of CO2 emissions reduction measures towards the achievement of the LTAG.
