Paul Hooper, an aviation economist, discusses the economic ripple effects of Covid-19 on the Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Since countries with limited connectivity heavily depend on tourism, aviation will significantly contribute to their socio-economic development to create a long-term sustainable future. Governments must take leadership and action to implement an efficient framework that aligns with these states’ priorities, potential, and needs. As one of the most vulnerable sectors impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the SIDS rely on aviation now more than ever to maximize their economies and their contributions.
