With technology moving at a fast pace and with the Aviation industry clamouring for ever increasing automation and pushing for autonomous vehicles, the questions of what and how much should be automated are more important now than ever before.
Automating what can be automated rather than what should be automated has proven dangerous. To at least maintain, if not improve upon, current levels of aviation safety while increasing the number and types of operations, we must think very carefully about the ways in which technology is introduced into aviation. We must develop a systematic methodology based on human factors so that the end users are able to intervene when systems fail.
IFALPA will continue the presentation with a Review of Human Factor applications with an Airline Pilot’s perspective.
Presenters are: Dr. Immanuel Barshi -NASA and Captain Stacey Jackson – IFALPA.
