An essential element in strengthening border security is the validation of electronic MRTDs. Validation of the travel document is a vital pre-requisite for border inspection systems to provide secure and reliable facial recognition matches between travel documents and travellers, as well as conduct accurate checks against information held in government databases. Experts will provide examples regarding inspection systems and tools for the efficient and secure reading and verification of MRTDs and eMRTDs, including use of the ICAO Public Key Directory (PKD) and increased implementation of Automated Border Control (ABC) gates.
