Presented by ICAO
Speakers: Mr. Nevin Murad
This SkyTalk highlighted ICAO’s Standardization Roadmap, developed following the 41st Assembly as a strategic tool for planning and coordinating innovations in aviation globally. Now fully integrated into the iSTARS platform, the roadmap provides a dynamic, rolling timeline that tracks the maturity of emerging technologies and indicates when ICAO may need to develop supporting global provisions.
The presentation detailed the roadmap’s three-gate process:
assessing initial relevance,
confirming technological maturity, and
determining readiness for global implementation.
It also clarified who is eligible to submit innovations and outlined the respective roles of States, recognized international organizations, and innovators. By bringing structure, transparency, and long-term planning to the innovation landscape, the Standardization Roadmap will support coordinated decision-making and enable the safe, harmonized introduction of new technologies across the global aviation system.
