Episode 24 - Unlocking Alcohol-to-Jet for SAF deployment
1h 18m
Following the adoption of the Global Framework on SAF, LCAF and other aviation cleaner energies at CAAF/3, States and industry stakeholders are encouraged to accelerate the deployment of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) through the development and scale-up of diverse production pathways. Ensuring a broad portfolio of technological options is essential to enhance feedstock flexibility, strengthen energy security, and support the achievement of the collective global aspirational vision to reduce international aviation CO2 emissions.
Among the approved fuel pathways under the CORSIA sustainability framework, the Alcohol-to-Jet (AtJ) pathway represents a promising route for SAF production as demonstrated in many of the published ACT-SAF feasibility and business implementation studies. While still at an early stage of commercial deployment, AtJ offers significant long-term potential, enabling the conversion of alcohols derived from a range of sustainable feedstocks into aviation fuel.
This ACT-SAF Series #24 focuses on the AtJ pathway from a technology provider perspective. In this session, three of the leading technology providers, LanzaJet, Axens & Topsoe, present their respective approaches to AtJ, share insights on market development and project economics, and discuss key challenges and opportunities for scaling up deployment. The session also provides an opportunity for ACT-SAF partners to better understand how to engage with technology providers in the development of AtJ projects.
