2023 Counter-Terrorism Week - Side event
"Aviation security contribution to the prevention and response to the evolving global terrorism landscape."
Terrorist threats to civil aviation are growing in complexity, with new modus operandi such as digital means and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), as well as a broader range of perpetrators. Terrorist groups continue to perceive attacks against international civil aviation as an effective way to cause substantial loss of life, economic damage and disruption. The civil aviation sector adapts itself to the evolving global threat landscape by changing the security mindset from a reactive security paradigm to a proactive, risk-based one that supports the resilience of civil aviation’s critical infrastructure against existing, new, and evolving threats.
Through an ‘All-of-UN’ approach, ICAO, UNCTED and UNOCT, in relation to the implementation of the relevant Security Council resolutions, 2178 (2014), 2309 (2016), 2396 (2017), please kindly confirm 2482 (2019) and 2370 (2017), cooperate closely on various initiatives to support Member States in addressing those threats.
