Regula Chronicles: 100000 Lebanese Pounds, 2020 (Commemorative)
September 2020 marked the 100th anniversary of the declaration of the State of Greater Lebanon. And, upon this occasion, Banque du Liban issued a new commemorative banknote – 100,000 Lebanese pounds.
The commemorative note was printed by the Polish company PWPW (Polska Wytwórnia Papierów Wartościowych) using the unique Guardian™ polymer substrate and revolutionary new security features. Its innovative design is themed around the images of Lebanon's landmarks.
The front side of the banknote shows Nejmeh Square (Parliament Square), a symbol of the country’s independence and democracy, and Saint John-Marc Cathedral in Byblos. The entrance to the cathedral is brought to life due to the innovative security feature Cinema™ giving it a sense of movement and a 3D effect.
The transparent window incorporated into the substrate of the banknote contains another unique security feature – VIVID™ Colour. It transforms a monochrome image of a Lebanese cedar visible in transmitted light into a full-color picture that fluoresces in UV light.
The reverse side of the banknote shows the Pigeons’ Rock (Raouché), a natural symbol of Beirut, and a Phoenician ship.
