Traveller Identification Programme (TRIP)
TRIP 2024 - Day 2 - Session 5 - Border Control Improvements
1h 16m
Border Control Improvements and Leveraging Electronic Machine-Readable Travel Documents (eMRTDS)
An essential element in strengthening border security is the validation of electronic MRTDs to establish trust in the document, thereby achieving greater trust in the biometric and biographic data from the chip of the document. Validation of the travel document is a vital pre-requisite for border inspection systems to provide secure and reliable facial recognition matches between travel documents and travellers, as well as conduct accurate checks against information held in government databases. Experts will provide examples regarding inspection systems and tools for the efficient and secure reading and verification of MRTDs and eMRTDs, including use of the ICAO Public Key Directory (PKD), increased implementation of Automated Border Control (ABC) gates and INTERPOL’s databases for travel documents and biometrics.
