Video statement by Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General, World Customs Organization, to HLCC Ministerial Plenary, on Building Resilience and Sustainability: The Global Customs Perspective. WCO and ICAO have been working closely during the pandemic and issued a Joint Statement on 2 February 2021 to ensure the safe, secure and efficient transport of vaccines and associated equipment across borders. Dr. Mikuriya highlighted three key elements for aviation recovery in a resilient and sustainable way: First, we need renewal of system by embracing innovation such as digital technology to enable sharing electronic advance data on cargoes and passengers for risk management; Second, recovery needs human-centred approach to make it resilient and hence the importance of people development; and Third, collaboration between relevant international organizations and business is vital and hence the importance of today’s session.
