Turbulence is the leading cause of injuries for cabin crew and passengers in non-fatal accidents and it also imposes significant financial costs on airlines.
In 2018, IATA developed Turbulence Aware—an innovative EDR (Eddy Dissipation Rate) data-sharing platform and operational safety tool.
With objective, automated, in-situ turbulence reports, dispatchers, pilots and cabin attendants can know exactly where turbulence and smooth air are and take appropriate action, are able to reassure passengers and cabin attendants and can optimize fuel burn.
