Many in aviation have long recognised that radio frequency spectrum is a critical infrastructure on which the industry relies. Media coverage of 5G rollout being constrained by aviation concerns greatly expanded awareness of the key role that spectrum plays. It also provided an insight into the scarcity of spectrum as a resource. We can expect that competition for this scarce resource will intensify. Just as other sectors are investing in new spectrum-reliant technologies, aviation is planning a future with increased reliance on spectrum to support ever more automated digital information flows not just for traditional aviation but also to enable a new future of remotely piloted and autonomous aviation. In this ANC Talks, we will learn more about aviation's current spectrum situation and how we are working to ensure that aviation's future needs can be secured. We will also hear how aviation is taking on the challenge of being seen as a good 'spectrum citizen' capable of working globally and with all industrial sectors to secure the best possible outcomes for all. The real experience of our speakers will help the Commission to understand the challenges already being addressed today and those that are anticipated as aviation moves forward with its plans. This should help ANC to have a conversation about what regulatory environment might be needed in the future and what further actions need to be put in place.
